BLAKE AARON/Color and Passion: Nice, solid guitar fusion in the classic blue print. Loaded with first call pals and jazz chart hit potential, this pre-consultant jaunt is loaded with the vibe that drew you to the sound in the first place when you were finding yourself too old for hair band rock and too young to give up on tunes. Unabashedly tasty throughout, this is the closest you're going to come to the all purpose anti-biotic we need right now. Right on.

DEAN TSUR/Moments of Inspiration: Was this guy hanging out in the rec room with your grandparents when lush show music records were the staple of the times with grown ups? A sax man with a real feel for lushly played movie music (and other period pieces) he says he's looking back at the last seven years of his life, we say he's a fan of making the hippest cocktail hour jazz ever played. He's played with everyone and come in high on hot shot awards but if you can't the feel the Houston Person in these grooves, well, forget it. A beautiful trip down memory lane in the hands of a pro.

PETER PARCEK/Mississippi Suitcase: When you don't have the chops and pals to pull off these omnibus kind of releases, they can be compost for the landfill. Parcek rubs shoulders with those North Mississippi boys and their pals and shows he knows his way around a song stack as well as he does turning his amp up to 11. A certified guitar slinging white boy with the blues, he handles John Estes as easily as he does Robert Hunter. Hot stuff for audiences bursting at the seams for a dose of same.

CLIFTON DAVIS/Never Can Say Goodbye: More of a protean entertainment talent than it feels like he's generally given credit for, the all around cat wisely hooks up with Beegie
Adair for a jazz/vocal set that highlights his own stuff as well as stuff from stops he's made along the way. An easy going set that you can enjoy without knowing any of his back story, the stars all aligned in the right order as this was being made. It's stuff like this that put the bite into easy listening when it was really needed. Well done.

SAN GABRIEL 7/Red Dress: Grabbing a hold of a Sergio Mendes sidekick, the funky rocket scientist cranks it up for album 10 and seems more intent about getting the word out about the funky goings on at Cal Tech when no one is looking. A nice roll up of jazz, soul and funk, this is the night on the town too many of us have been missing the last several months. A sure fire way to get you stepping.
NEPTUNAS/Mermaid a Go Go: APB for anyone who hasn't forgotten what fun was like. Under the watchful eye of a Los Straightjacketer, the Neptunas have reformed, are as tight as ever and have a load of new garage/surf/punk tunes that any certified left fielder will love. Generation proof music, even though they haven't played together in almost 20 years, all it took was blowing the dust off the guitar cases to reignite the fire. A totally timeless guitar gasser.

NEW MOON JELLY ROLL FREEDOM ROCKERS/Vol. 1: It figures it took 13 years for this session to see light of day. Recorded in an afternoon with a few generations of blues and blues rockers gathered around the mic recording off the floor, this is what happens when you can record in your own studio off the clock and let the camaraderie flow like whisky from jelly glasses. With a whole bunch of Dickinson's weaving in and out of the mix, the legend has now become reality. If you dig it old school, the wait is over and the roof is being raised. Killer stuff.

RONNIE EARL & the Broadcasters/Rise Up: Something about the solo sound of "I Shall Not be Moved" that opens this mostly recorded at home set tells you you're in for something special. And you are. It's got an old school sound and feel but there's no dust on the multi award winning white boy with the blues. He's 67 and if you are too, this is going to take you back to the college coffee house where you bogarted your first joint away from the watchful eyes of the local narc. Who could have known what fuse Butterfield was lighting? Hot stuff throughout.

MALAYA BLUE/Still: Dennis Walker brings this UK white gal with the blues a load of Muscle Shoals but he brings her a lot more after hours Stax and Malaco for a real blue eyed soul extravaganza. Taking her place with all the genre's greats, her voice will wrap you around it's little finger as you ignore the pretenders to the throne parading across talent shows. Utterly hot stuff.

MAGGIE HERRON/Your Refrain: One of the tent poles of Hawaii's jazz circles gets personal here as she loads the deck with songs co-written by her late daughter who passed easier this year. Genes will out and talent was in the family blood lines, for sure. With some first call pals brought over from the main land, nothing here is left to chance and the tribute is a mighty one.
