NIC VARDANEGA/Point in Time: The left leaning jazz guitar man from Oz continues to flex his wings in an angular way that makes him and his young co-horts stretch their wings well. A major voice down under, he's showing how to get it done here as well. A real left leaning treat, this is one cat that comes to play and does a great job.
FRANCESCA PRIHASTI/Adriana: Taking it back to the 70s, this pianist locks in that groove that fusion had just before it went electric and no one was sure what it quite was but they knew they liked it enough to keep encouraging it. Although not quite as cosmos directed, the sense of space is evident and the after hours feel to much of it is a real tonic. Tasty.
OGJB QUARTET/Bamako: Finland's home of the hell raisers rounds up a multi generational crew of hell raisers that must have been taking their Viagra, gingko and who knows what else to keep them partying downtown rather than go home and rest---ever. As left leaning as you would expect from a contingent like this, they raise the roof with their version of a joyful noise letting their freek flags fly like it's never going to end. A killer diller of a date for those that like their jazz outré. (Feel free to Google the membership of this crew that starts their name with OG).
